What our clients say

Heidi Windham Edwards ~ MBACP (Accred) Director/ Psychotherapist/ Supervisor/Couples

I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. My intention is to provide a safe, non-judgemental, comfortable space for us to explore any issues affecting you.

I will support you in discovering what is best for you and what you hope to gain from coming into therapy. It may be that you have specific life experiences that you want to work through, or you are in need of offloading everyday stress and searching for peace of mind. I am a warm person and believe that we all have the potential to experience more satisfying and fulfilling lives. I work with individuals as well as facilitating groups for other therapists and deliver training to other professional organisations.

I have been a counsellor in various settings for 15 years and have a Diploma in Contemporary Psychotherapy. I began my training in 1992 as a Work Scholar at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. I continued training over the years obtaining qualifications including Counselling Skills and Theory 1996-1998, and then Practitioner and Master Practitioner in Systemic Neuro Linguistic Programming 2004-2005. I believe strongly in professional development and have continued studying and completed courses in Ericksonian Hypno-Psychotherapy, Psychopathology in Psychotherapeutic Practice, Systemic Family Therapy and C.B.T (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

I have worked with a mixture of client groups across Essex and East London. In 1996 I was employed by Newham Drugs Advice Project as a School Counsellor. I continued my work in Barking at The Axe Street Project 1999-2002 working with clients with various addictions. I also co-facilitated training for volunteers at Careline Telephone Counselling Service in Ilford.

I have been employed for the last 7 years at a charity in Grays; Essex called Open Door as a Contemporary Psychotherapist for the Interventions Team and as Manager of the Young Peoples Substance Misuse Project- The Network.

I have a passion for my work with people and am committed to good ethical practice. I am a full member of the Community for Contemporary Psychotherapy and have regular supervision with a BACP, UKRC accredited Supervisor.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I had an unusual entry into the therapeutic world. My parents had always been interested in self development, taking part in experiential training and living a bohemian life. In 1982 we visited California, towards the end of our trip my parents decided we would stay, sell our home in England and continue our adventure. I was 8 years old and for four years we travelled around, moving often, changing schools and becoming more involved in the Human Potential Movement.

During our travels we spent time at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, where my dad sometimes co facilitated Gestalt Therapy Groups. I was the only child present and at 9 years old, I was active within the groups,  taking part in constellation work. I had the experience of “sitting with people” while they were processing their pain, hearing their stories and witnessing them bravely working through difficult, sometimes traumatic memories. These experiences had a profound impact on me and I returned to California when I was 18 and took part in Esalen’s Work Scholar Programme with a view to becoming a therapist myself.

That was the beginning of my training over 40 years ago. My interest in people grew and grew over the years, although I was not academic (I had undiagnosed ADHD). I began more formal training in counselling skills and theory 1996-1998. In 2003 I started my Diploma in Contemporary Psychotherapy with the Beeleaf Institute and qualified in 2009.

I continued studying in between raising a family, living with various health conditions and working for charities managing young peoples services. My studies included Ericksonian Hypo-Psychotherapy, Psychopathology in Psychotherapeutic Practice, Systemic Family Therapy and C.B.T (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). In September 2010 I completed my FDAP Certificate in Supervisory Management and Leadership Techniques.    In 2014 I proudly gained a Diploma in Supervision from the Gestalt Centre in London. Having a passion for relationships and how we show up for our partners, in 2017 I continued my training at The Gestalt Centre qualifying in Couples Therapy.

Over the last 30 years I have enjoyed working with a diverse group of clients in various settings. In 2009 after 8 years I left my role as manager of a young persons agency to concentrate my energy solely on Heart and Mind, running our Grays clinic. I am passionate about being a therapist, I enjoy travelling with people on their journeys through transformation, the ups and the downs with the various challenges in between. I have a commitment to working with integrity, compassion, authenticity and courage.
